Acting sustainably via app – a flagship project on the EUREF campus
The last two weeks of August were all about sustainability at the EUREF Campus. The occasion was the annual urea SummerFestival. In addition to the annual volleyball tournament, inno2grid GmbH togetherwithANIMUS GmbH and EUREF AG have come up with something special this year.
The Sustainability Challenge celebrates its premiere
The opening address of the summer festival also marked the start of the “SustainabilityChallenge”, in which users could collect points for sustainable behavior. Through an app, over 400 sustainable user activities in the categories Fitness [&] Social, Mobility, Resource Management and Zero Wastewere shared within the EUREFcommunity. C02-neutral mobility was particularly popular. Many have defied the usual drive to the car and instead have commuted to the EUREF campus by public transport or by bicycle.
The second most popular activity was the avoidance of disposable containers and plastic bags. Many have taken a cloth bag with them for shopping and left the plastic bag in the store.

The Challenge is part of the EUREF-Campus App
The app, which has enabled users to collect sustainability points, is also a novelty on the EUREF campus. The“EUREF Campus App” was only released in the app stores in Juneand has since enjoyed increasing popularity on campus. About a third of the users on campus are now registered in the app.
The Sustainability Challenge is one of many features that offer campus users added value in their daily work life. Only recently, information about the restaurants on campus has been added to the app as a new function. Since then, all users have been able to view the daily menus and the current opening status of the restaurants.
After the Challenge is before the Challenge
Promoting sustainable behavior in a competition proved to be an appropriate measure to increase the relevance of the EUREF Campus app and to enlarge the EUREF community. For future challenges, inno2gridGmbH, as the operator of the app and the Challenge, hopes to see an even broader commitment from the morethan120 companies on the campus in order to strengthen the identification and cohesion of the EUREFcommunity in a playful way. In addition, even more, attractive prices and optimizations in the context of team building can be expected. Finally, we would like to thank all participants for their active participation and wish the first place winners from the WZB Science Centre and all other winners a lot of fun with the prizes: Enjoy the restaurant vouchers and enjoy the view during the Gasometer climb!
