Mobility and infrastructure manifesto “the new garden field”: Smart Mobility for a completely smart city district
The new Gartenfeld
A new urban district for Berlin is being built in Spandau: The New Garden Field. On the approximately 60-hectare, formerly commercial used Gartenfelder Insel, innovative, sustainable and versatile living with around 3600 housing units will be made possible by 2022. An innovative Smart City concept is being implemented, in which Smart Mobility also plays a major role. Inno2grid supported the project with an innovative mobility concept and advised on the premises of a low parking lot key and low traffic volume.

Benefits
Smart Mobility for a completely smart city district
On Gartenfelder Insel in the northwest of Berlin, previously used for commercial purposes, a trendsetting urban district with a lively community approach and approximately 3600 apartments will be built by 2022. Among other things, the district “Das Neue Gartenfeld” will be distinguished by a low-traffic mobility concept and a high degree of connectivity of the digital and physical supply infrastructures.
The communal approach of the building projects is reflected in the interpretation of the district concept. As a framework and basis for the further sector planning, inno2grid and BuroHappold developed an integrated infrastructure, mobility and operator concept as an Arge IQ (“Intelligent Quarter”) prior to the actual HOAI planning process. This integrates the sectors of mobility, information and communication technology, energy, water supply and disposal, logistics and waste, and interprets them qualitatively and quantitatively (combining innovative and proven technologies such as electromobility, mobility hubs, heat pumps and district power grids). The digital heart of the concept is the neighborhood platform, in which all the services offered in the neighborhood can be integrated, booked and billed.
Inno2grid supported the project development:
-
Site analysis and evaluation of the quality of development with different means of transport (modal comparison)
-
Workshops for supply variants with the client
-
Development of an operator and infrastructure concept with sustainable and quantified guidelines on integration potentials in the areas of mobility, energy, waste, ICT, logistics, water supply and waste disposal
-
Development of a robust, cross-sectoral basic concept and guidelines as a basis for all further planning projects according to HOAI
-
Early detection of synergies and interfaces
-
Transferability of tenders and procedures to other construction projects
